• Crept [ক্রেপ্ট] - হামাগুড়ি দিয়ে বা নিঃশব্দে চলা (Moved quietly)
• Oakwood [ওকউড] - ওক গাছের জঙ্গল (Forest of oak trees)
• Stag [স্ট্যাগ] - পুরুষ হরিণ (Male deer)

[Eng:] We are chopped down, we are torn up, you do not blink an eye. [Pronunciation:] উই আর চপড ডাউন, উই আর টর্ন আপ, ইউ ডু নট ব্লিংক অ্যান আই। [Meaning:] আমাদের কেটে ফেলা হয়, ছিঁড়ে উপড়ে ফেলা হয়, কিন্তু তোমরা চোখের পলকটুকুও ফেলো না (মানে তোমাদের কোনো দয়া হয় না)।

কবিতার সারসংক্ষেপ (Summary)

এই কবিতায় কবি টেড হিউজ একটি ছোট ছেলের অভিজ্ঞতার কথা বলেছেন। ছেলেটি জঙ্গলে হরিণ খুঁজতে গিয়ে এক রহস্যময় বুড়ির দেখা পায়। সেই বুড়ি তাকে যাদু করে এক স্বপ্নের জগতে নিয়ে যায়। স্বপ্নে ওক গাছের দল তাকে ঘিরে ধরে বলে যে, মানুষ নির্বিচারে গাছ কাটছে কিন্তু কেউ গাছের কষ্টের দিকে তাকাচ্ছে না। গাছেরা ছেলেটিকে ভয় দেখায় যে, যদি সে কথা না দেয় যে একটা গাছ কাটলে সে দুটো গাছ লাগাবে, তবে তারা তাকে মেরে ফেলবে। এই স্বপ্ন দেখার পর ছেলেটির মানসিকতা বদলে যায়। সে জঙ্গলে থেকে ফিরে আসে মানুষের মতো দেখতে হয়েই, কিন্তু তার মনটা হয়ে যায় গাছের মতো—অর্থাৎ সে এখন গাছের ব্যথা বুঝতে পারে।
